Recruitment Shard Probability Calculator
Calculation Results
How to Use This Tool
Follow these steps to calculate your recruitment shard odds:
- Enter the total number of shards required to recruit your target character or item.
- Input the number of shards you already own toward that recruit.
- Specify how many pulls you plan to perform in the gacha or loot system.
- Enter the shard drop probability per pull, then select if you entered a percentage or decimal value.
- Optionally add your game’s pity system details: set the pity threshold to the number of pulls that trigger a guaranteed shard, and the number of shards granted at pity.
- Click the Calculate Probability button to view your results.
- Use the Reset button to clear all fields and start a new calculation.
Formula and Logic
This tool uses two core calculations to deliver accurate results:
- Expected Shards: Calculated as (Number of Pulls × Drop Rate per Pull) + (Number of Pity Triggers × Shards per Pity Trigger). Pity triggers equal the total pulls divided by the pity threshold, rounded down.
- Success Probability: Uses the binomial cumulative distribution function to calculate the odds of getting at least the required number of RNG shards, plus any guaranteed pity shards. For pull counts over 1000, the tool uses a normal approximation to maintain performance.
All drop rates are converted to decimal format internally for consistent calculation.
Practical Notes
Gaming-specific considerations for accurate results:
- Drop rates are often patch-dependent: always check the latest official game notes or in-game disclosures for current rates before calculating.
- Pity systems vary widely between games: some reset the pity counter when you receive a shard, while others trigger on a fixed interval regardless of RNG drops. This tool assumes fixed-interval pity.
- RNG introduces variance: expected values represent long-term averages, not guarantees for individual pull sessions.
- For tabletop or homebrew games, adjust drop rates and pity rules to match your specific game master’s guidelines.
- Streamers and content creators can use this tool to pre-calculate pull outcome scenarios for audience engagement.
Why This Tool Is Useful
- Helps gamers budget in-game currency by estimating how many pulls are needed to secure a target recruit.
- Game designers can use it to balance drop rates and pity systems for fair, engaging gameplay.
- Competitive players can plan resource spending around limited-time events with exclusive recruits.
- Reduces guesswork when deciding whether to spend premium currency on current banners or save for future ones.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this tool account for guaranteed recruit systems separate from shards?
No, this calculator focuses specifically on shard drop probability. If your game has a separate guaranteed recruit mechanic (e.g., a 5-star character guaranteed after 100 pulls), adjust your total shards required to reflect that guaranteed recruit’s shard equivalent.
How do I find the correct drop rate for my game?
Most gacha games disclose drop rates in the summon or recruit menu, or in official patch notes. Rates are typically listed as a percentage per pull (e.g., 1.5% per pull for a 5-star shard).
What if my game’s pity counter resets when I get a shard?
This tool assumes pity triggers on a fixed interval regardless of RNG shard drops. For reset-on-drop pity systems, reduce your total pull count by the number of expected RNG shard drops when inputting values to get a more accurate result.
Additional Guidance
Always verify drop rates with the latest game version, as developers may adjust rates without prior notice. For tabletop games, consult your game master for official shard drop rules before using results. Use the copy-to-clipboard function to save result snapshots for reference during live pulls or design sessions.
